Aquaman gets 2018 release date

Won’t compete with anyone else for the spot

Warner Bros.

Aquaman will swim into theaters on Oct. 5, 2018, Warner Bros. Entertainment announced on Friday.

The superhero, who made his quick debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, is the fifth DC Comics character to get a stand-alone movie, following Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the upcoming Flash movie. Aquaman will make his feature length-film debut next year in Snyder’s Justice League.

Aquaman will be played by Jason Momoa, best known for his work as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. The film also stars Amber Heard as Queen Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko. The film is being directed by James Wan, best known for his work on Saw and Furious 7.

Warner Bros. had included an “untitled project” on its release schedule for Oct. 5 quite some time ago, which led some fans to believe it could have been the slot for Aquaman, but the studio never confirmed it. As of right now, Aquaman doesn’t have any competition from Marvel or Disney, but that could change in the future.
