Fast 8 featurette delivers feels along with trailer debut date

Universal Pictures

A new featurette from Universal Pictures has reunited the Fast and Furious family, and shows off a couple of new clips from the upcoming eighth installment.

The three-minute feature, for the most part, focuses on the franchise’s actors talking about the history of the film. There are scenes from every Fast and Furious film, with multiple clips of the late Paul Walker — who played Brian O’Connor in series and passed away in 2013 — standing alongside his fellow cast mates.

It’s not until about two-and-a-half minutes in that new footage is shown, and most of it is behind-the-scenes. There are a couple of shots with Charlize Theron and Vin Diesel, as well as a couple of action shots featuring Dwayne Johnson and Ludacris. Diesel, Johnson and Ludacris will all be reprising their franchise roles, but Theron is a new addition to the cast. Universal previously confirmed that she would be playing Cipher, a new adversary that Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his crew would have to take on.

The featurette also confirmed that there would be a live Facebook event on Dec. 11 featuring the cast of the film. The event will also mark the debut of the first Fast 8 trailer.

Fast 8, which will also see the return of Jason Statham as Decakard Shaw and the introduction of Helen Mirren to the franchise, hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
