MMA fighter Conor McGregor joins Game of Thrones

First space, now the North

MMA Champion Conor McGregor is going from hanging out in space in Call of Duty: Infinite Warefare to Westeros in Game of Thrones.

McGregor was first rumored to be on the show earlier this week, but last night, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the fighter would be appearing in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. During a Fox Sports Live interview, White said that he knew the Game of Thrones executives were interested in talking to McGregor about a potential role, but didn’t know he had accepted until just recently.

“I knew that a few months ago they were interested in putting him in the show,” White said. “I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great.”

White didn’t say who McGregor would be playing, but according to a report from Watchers on the Wall, a fan site dedicated to covering the ongoings that occur on Game of Thrones sets, McGregor will be a “pirate belonging to Euron Greyjoy’s crew, on the ship Silence.”

This isn’t McGregor’s first acting job, either. The fighter leant his voice acting talents to Activision earlier this year for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. He’s also provided voice acting for EA Sports UFC 2, in which he played himself.

Game of Thrones returns for a seventh season in June 2017.
