Fast 8 is officially called The Fate of the Furious, first teaser is here

We can only hope the movie is as majestic as its title

Universal Pictures

Fast 8 officially has a new title: The Fate of the Furious.

Universal Pictures announced the title of the movie on Twitter today and shared a 15-second clip featuring new footage. There are scenes of an intense snowmobile fight scene, racing on glaciers and of course, the Fast and Furious crew. The video also shows off Charlize Theron’s new character, Cipher, for a brief second. Universal previously confirmed that Theron would play one of the new adversaries that main character Dominic Toretto and his crew would have to take on during their mission.

Oh, yeah, there are also quite a few explosions for 15 seconds of footage.

The bigger takeaway from the tweet is the official title of the movie: The Fate of the Furious was originally called Fast 8 — and was the name that Diesel and his co-stars marketed the movie under — but this will be the new title moving forward. It’s interesting that Universal decided to change the name of the movie so close to the premiere date, looking at other Fast and Furious titles.

The Fate of the Furious will be released on April 15, 2017. The first full-length trailer for the film will premiere during a Facebook Live event on Sunday.
