Syfy is partnering up with Canadian development studio Secret Location to produce a short-scripted series for the Oculus Rift.
The series, Halycon, will comprise of 15 episodes. While the first 10 will be made available to standard television users, the last five will be created specifically for users of the virtual reality headset. Set in 2058, Halycon has been described as a futuristic police procedural set within a police department's VR Crimes Unit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"VR is being exposed to more and more people and with projects like Halcyon, we intend to help this immersive form of entertainment grow," James Milward, president of Secret Location, told the magazine.
Secret Location has worked on developing various virtual reality experiences for other shows, including The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow. The company also created their own miniseries, Whatever, Linda: Series, that included virtual reality elements.
There's no word on when Halycon will premiere on Syfy and be made available for Oculus Rift users, but it is currently filming in Toronto.
