Battlezone's 1998 PC remaster comes to Steam this spring, says Rebellion

VR edition still in the works for PlayStation

A remaster of 1998's Battlezone on PC — the real-time strategy/first-person shooter hybrid taking its name from the early 1980s arcade title — will launch this spring on Steam, publisher Rebellion said this morning.

The game's original developers are working on Battlezone 98 Redux as well, Rebellion said. Big Boat Interactive's team includes three developers who worked on the 1998 game "and played a key part in keeping the community alive for 18 years," Rebellion said in a statement.

Rebellion acquired the Battlezone franchise from Atari, maker of the original 1980 game, in 2013.

This will be the first third-party title that Rebellion, known for its Sniper Elite and Zombie Army spinoff series, will publish. Rebellion added that this will be the first in a series of third-party games in will publish, including a Battlezone version for the upcoming PlayStation VR.
