Elite: Dangerous now offering Arena, a stand-alone PvP mode

Multiplayer space combat among four ships on three maps

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Elite: Dangerous is carving out its player-versus-player mode and offering it on Windows PC at a bite-sized price beginning today.

Elite: Dangerous Arena is $7.49 through Steam and Frontier Developments. The multiplayer dogfighting mode is already available to those who have the full game, where it is called Close Quarter Combat (CQC).

For those who buy Arena and then elect to get the rest of Elite: Dangerous: Deluxe Edition, the $7.49 will be deducted from the main game's full sale price of $59.99.

CQC features four ships, four space combat arenas and three multiplayer game types including free-for-all, team deathmatch and capture the flag.
