Here's who Martin Freeman is playing in Captain America: Civil War

Also, first look at Crossbones

Martin Freeman's character in Civil War has finally been revealed.

The actor, best known for his work as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Hobbit series, will play Everett K. Ross, a government employee who works closely with foreign dignitaries like Black Panther.

Freeman's role was revealed by Empire Magazine earlier today, along with a first look at his character in action, which can be seen below.

Although Ross doesn't have a huge role in the Civil War comics, he does become an ally of sorts to Black Panther. While Freeman hasn't been a name that's floated around the upcoming Black Panther standalone film, it would make sense for Marvel to use his appearance in Civil War to prime the character for a future appearance in the movie.

Alongside the reveal of Freeman's character, Empire Magazine also debuted the first photo of Crossbones, an incredibly important character in Civil War.

In the Civil War comic, Crossbones is the man behind one of the most notable assassinations. Played by Frank Grillo in the Captain America films, audiences would have caught their first glimpse of the character in Winter Soldier.

Crossbones

According to Empire, despite Crossbones' small appearance in Winter Soldier, the character will have a much more active role in Civil War and will pose quite a threat to Captain America and his superhero team.

Captain America: Civil War is the third installment in the series and will pit America's golden boy against Avengers teammate Iron Man in one of Marvel's most famous adaptations to date.

Civil War hits theaters May 6.
