Ava DuVernay will direct Disney's adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time, according to Variety.
DuVernay is best known as the co-writer and director of Selma, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2015. While she was on the shortlist to direct Black Panther for Marvel, A Wrinkle in Time is one of her first confirmed projects following the success of Selma. Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has also stated his interest in seeing DuVernay direct a future Star Wars film.
The time-traveling fantasy film based on the classic novel has a script by Jennifer Lee, who wrote and co-directed Frozen for the studio. She's also working on a follow-up to Frozen.
No release date is in the cards yet for A Wrinkle in Time. The novel made its debut in 1963 and was later followed by four sequels. It was previously adapted for television in 2003, airing on the Disney-owned ABC network.
