After spending four months conducting a world-wide search for the star of its upcoming show, Riverdale, The CW has finally found its Archie Andrews.
KJ Apa, an 18-year-old actor from New Zealand, will play the titular freckled, red-haired character.
Much like his character in the comic book series, Apa's Archie will still be caught in a love triangle with on and off again romances Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge, while struggling to handle the demands of school, sports and a potential music career.
Unlike in the comics, however, this version of Archie dream of being a musician and suffers from constant battles with his father over the decision to pursue that lifestyle.
Also joining Apa's Archie on the quest for music stardom will be Ashleigh Murray's Josie McCoy, otherwise known as the lead singer and face of Josie and the Pussycats.
In the comics, Josie and the Pussycats were close friends with Archie and the members of his band, The Archies. Eventually, they become such popular characters with readers that Josie and her friends, Melody Valentine and Valerie Brown, were spun off into their own series.
Described as a "snooty" teenager, Josie is the superstar in town, and despite Archie's best efforts to try and record a song with her, she's not interested in teaming up with him.
Murray and Apa are just the latest names attached to the series. It was previously announced that Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) would be joining the show as Jughead Jones, with Lili Reinhart (Surviving Jack) playing Betty Cooper.
Riverdale is currently in the pilot stage of production.
