Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved finally added to Xbox One backward compatibility list

Reviving an XBLA classic

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, the game that essentially legitimized the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade platform, is now playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

When Microsoft announced the backward compatibility feature at E3 2015, the company actually listed Geometry Wars in the initial group of 18 Xbox 360 games that would be playable on Xbox One. Geometry Wars was also playable in the backward compatibility beta last summer. However, the game didn't make it into the list of 104 titles that were actually supported when the feature debuted in mid-November. So it's been a long road to this point for fans of the twin-stick shooter.

Geometry Wars was an Xbox 360 launch title from the now-defunct Bizarre Creations, a project that the studio expanded out of a minigame in 2003's Project Gotham Racing 2. It went on to become one of the most celebrated and beloved games in the history of Xbox Live Arcade. If you don't own it already, you can buy it for $4.99 on the Xbox Live Marketplace and then download it to your Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
