New Dark Souls 3 footage shows off a quick-stepping thief

See a little dagger play

FromSoftware recently streamed some fresh footage of Dark Souls 3, showing off a bit of new gameplay from the upcoming PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One game. While it's a brief snippet, it shows off a new mechanic that should look familiar to Bloodborne players: the quick step.

Quick stepping appears to be one of Dark Souls 3's weapon arts — weapon-specific abilities that add to the combat options available to players. While other weapons provide new types of attacks or the ability to charge up existing attacks, daggers in Dark Souls 3 appear to give players a new defensive option. You can see that in action in the video above, as the quick step, which is different from Dark Souls' dodge-roll, consumes a little bit of mana every time it's used.

There's not too much else to see in the video, other than a look at a thief-type build and the Untended Graves area, but it's a welcome peek at some fresh gameplay. The video was captured by YouTube user Gimore Mizzi.

Dark Souls 3 will be released on April 12 in North America and Europe. Japan gets the game a bit earlier on March 24.
