Minimap is your daily audio tour through the world of video games, related technologies and pop culture like comics, movies and TV. And today, it transforms into Polygon Minimap: Worldmap Edition. These special episodes include on-staff experts who not only talk about current events, but analyze and synthesize them.

Think of Worldmap Edition as the director's commentary for Polygon.

Today, we're joined by Ben Kuchera, who's been reporting on virtual reality for years. Before that, he was an enthusiast for the technology, back when he used to play terrible VR arcade games.

Ben recently got a chance to spend several hours in what he called "a sort of church for virtual reality," playing with virtual worlds that Valve and HTC's Vive makes possible. On this episode of Polygon Minimap: Worldmap Edition, Ben takes us on a decades-long tour of VR, the Vive's games and a deep dive into the differences between the Valve's VR and its main competitor, the Oculus Rift.
