Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool hasn't even been released yet, but the actor said his main focus right now is to work on getting an X-Force movie made.
Talking to German outlet Filmstarts, Reynolds said that he believes there's a section of the X-Men universe that hasn't been explored, including X-Force, that he wants to start working on immediately.
"In the future, if we're doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we're really going to explore the X-Men a lot," Reynolds said. "And maybe X-Force. X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in."
Although it took Reynolds years to get his Deadpool movie greenlit at Fox — it only happened after test footage of the movie leaked online — now may be the best time to try and get an X-Force movie off the ground.
Not only is Reynolds' Deadpool movie on track to make a killing at the box office, but Fox is also about to start development on a New Mutants television series in partnership with Marvel. New Mutants, a spinoff of the X-Men series, eventually lead to X-Force being born. If Fox wanted to tie its cinematic universe in with its television department, much in the same way Marvel originally did with Agents of Shield, using X-Force and New Mutants could be a potential way to do so.
The concept of an X-Force movie isn't anything new to the studio, either. Years ago, Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow was asked by the studio to write a script for an X-Force movie. Before the film could get anywhere, however, the Deadpool footage leaked and Fox fast tracked development on that after seeing how the internet reacted to it.
Deadpool hits theaters Feb. 12.
