The Americas Winter Championship for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft begins today, and Blizzard has promised to kick off the event with a big announcement. All signs point toward that announcement being a new expansion for the digital card game.
Even beyond the big news, though, it promises to be an exciting weekend for Hearthstone. Eight of the best Hearthstone players in America who qualified through previous tournaments will face off in two groups of four. Each player will bring four unique decks, each of a different class, and they will have the opportunity to ban one of their opponent's decks.
The initial groups will be double-elimination, with the winning player from each group of four meeting up for a single-elimination final. The winner of that final will win the Hearthstone Winter Championship title, $25,000 and a guaranteed spot in the 2016 Hearthstone World Championship competition at BlizzCon.
The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. PT today, and you can watch via the official Hearthstone Twitch stream embedded above. The battles will continue at 10 a.m. PT tomorrow, March 12, and Sunday, March 13. The Europe Winter Championship will take place next weekend, and the Asia-Pacific Winter Championship will take place the weekend following that.
