Outcast, the new series based on The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's comic of the same name, is set to premiere June 3 on Cinemax.
The show follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who's been possessed by some kind of demon his entire life. When he partners up with a reverend, however, who's also been possessed, he goes on a journey to rid himself of the demon once and for all. Outcast began publishing in 2014 under Image Comics, the same company that publishes Kirkman's Walking Dead. There are currently 17 issues of the series available.
In a press release, Kirkman said that being able to bring Outcast to life has been a dream come true, adding that Cinemax gave him and his team, "unprecedented creative freedom." All of which points to a much gorier and scarier show than what fans will be used to on The Walking Dead.
Kirkman has signed onto the project as an executive producer, much like he is with The Walking Dead on AMC. The pilot episode was directed by Adam Wingard, best known for his work on The Guest.
The 10-episode series has already been renewed for a second season ahead of the first season's premiere date. The first trailer for the show can be seen above.
