Assassin's Creed VR experience on the way

New, 2 comments

Will be based on the upcoming movie

Today Ubisoft announced an Assassin's Creed-themed virtual reality experience, to be produced in partnership with Fox and visual effects house Practical Magic. The Twitter post was light on details, but stated that the product will be based on the movie, Assassin's Creed, which finished filming in January and has an anticipated theatrical release date of Dec. 21.

The experience was unveiled during AMD's GDC press conference. During the unveil, Matthew Lewis, president of Practical Magic VR and director of VR experiences, was clear to point out that the experience was "not a game."

He did say that the VR experience was filmed alongside the movie and that shoot locations included Malta, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Not much is known about Practical Magic, other than the tagline on its website which calls out their services as providing "studio-grade" virtual reality. Only one employee is listed as working at Practical Magic on LinkedIn, visual effects supervisor Bud Myrick. His credits include work on X-Men 2, Serenity and Men in Black 2.

"We're excited about the announcement of the Assassin's Creed VR Experience and we look forward to working with New Regency, Fox and Practical Magic to share more in the future," said Ubisoft spokesperson, Michael Beadle.

Polygon will have more information about the VR experience straight from the 2016 Game Developers Conference this evening. We've also reached out to Practical Magic for more information.
