Emily Browning, the actress best known for her work in A Series of Unfortunate Events, will join Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle in Starz's TV adaptation of American Gods.
Browning will play Laura Moon, the wife of main character Shadow Moon (played by Whittle) who inadvertently gets dragged through the trip of her life when she meets up with her husband and his new boss, the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (McShane).
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, author Neil Gaiman said he's been "fascinated" with Browning as an actor since he saw her in A Series of Unfortunate Events. He added that Laura is a tricky character, and in the series, she's far more difficult to play. Gaiman said that there are far more dangers facing Laura in the series than there were in the book, and it's a role Browning will have fun playing.
American Gods focuses on Shadow Moon, an ex-convict, as he teams up with a con man named Mr. Wednesday. As the story progresses, it's revealed that Mr. Wednesday belongs to group of ancient gods waging war on a generation of new gods that are tainted by materialistic ideals.
The series is set to start production in Toronto this summer.
