Blizzard's new Overwatch short might be teasing a few new heroes

Some new (and vaguely familiar) faces could be joining the ranks

"Recall," the newly released animated short for Blizzard's Overwatch, may have sneaked in a few clues about the future of the game's roster. Near the end of the nearly 8-minute short are 15 members of the Overwatch team we haven't seen before — or have seen mere glimpses of only in early concept art for the game.

Those 15 agents are nestled between a handful of Overwatch's confirmed list of 21 playable characters. All their names and ages have been blurred out to keep them mysterious, and the unannounced characters flip by almost too quickly to see. Some look a little more visually fleshed out than others, and there's no guarantee that any of them will actually appear in the game.

But some have appeared in our earliest peeks at Overwatch. Here's a piece of concept art that was attached to the game's debut trailer in 2014.

There are plenty of characters in that lineup that aren't confirmed for the game's May launch. Some of the illustrations in the gallery above — the red mustachioed mech on the right, for example — match or closely resemble some of the heroes in that Overwatch art.

Blizzard plans to release new heroes for the game for free, and the company may be using today's animated short to tease (and solicit feedback on) new Overwatch heroes. Any favorites?
