Fallout 4 mod finally lets Dogmeat head out on his own

A new and improved take on the game

In Fallout 4, developer Bethesda Game Studio did players a service by letting them take the adorable German Shepherd Dogmeat along for their adventures — and ensuring that the companion couldn't die. A new fanmade mod for the game, however, gives Dogmeat an even bigger role. Available as a free download, the add-on makes Dogmeat or any other four-legged friend playable in the Windows PC version of the role-playing game.

The dogs come equipped with four attacks, including the ability to bite enemies. As seen in the video above, these moves are surprisingly effective against gun-toting villains.

Fallout 4 has been out for several months now, but fans are continuing to iterate on the release — and Bethesda is, too. A season pass is now on sale, and its first expansion launches tomorrow. The Automatron downloadable content will come with its own set of new mods — this time for the new, customizable robot companions that it will add to the game.
