Actor and comedian Garry Shandling, best known for his role as Larry Sanders on HBO's iconic series, The Larry Sanders Show, has died at 66, according to TMZ.
Shandling, who also played Senator Stern in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: Winter Soldier, got his start in 1986 on the It's Garry Shandling's Show, which ran for four years. It was a springboard to various films before he secured his role as the sarcastic and beloved fictional late night host Larry Sanders. The HBO series ran for six years before being taken off the air, but its mark on modern television is still widely acknowledged.
Shandling was also a well known television writer, writing episodes of his own series in 1986 and penning the scripts of various Larry Sanders Show episodes.
A representative from the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Shandling died in an L.A. hospital on Thursday, although the cause of death is unknown.
