There's another Star Fox game coming to Wii U alongside Nintendo and Platinum Games' Star Fox Zero. It's called Star Fox Guard, and it's the final version of an experiment that game designer Shigeru Miyamoto first unveiled at E3 2014.

Star Fox Guard is the game previously known as Project Guard. The title was originally one of three projects for Wii U that were focused on using the GamePad controller in concert with a television. Project Guard tasked players with monitoring and protecting an outpost by using a series of surveillance cameras, as waves of robotic attackers streamed in.

In the final release, players will help Grippy Toad, the uncle of Star Fox's Slippy Toad, defend against waves of robots. Players will also be able to create custom levels, editing the waves of robots, and share them online.

Star Fox Guard will be included in the retail release of Star Fox Zero, and can be purchased separately digitally.

Star Fox Guard and Star Fox Zero will be released on Wii U April 22.
