Here's a longer look at Nioh, Team Ninja's samurai action game

Ninja Gaiden team shows off its historical action RPG

Koei Tecmo's long-in-development samurai action game Nioh reemerged at last year's Tokyo Game Show, and if you weren't there to see its behind-closed-doors demo, now's your chance to see actual gameplay from the PlayStation 4 game.

Nioh, based on the newly released TGS walkthrough, looks a lot like Team Ninja's take on Dark Souls, with a bit of Ninja Gaiden thrown in. Players will square off against smaller groups of enemies in battles where staying on defense and carefully choosing when to strike is paramount to survival. Enemies will also drop gear the player can collect and equip, and some of those enemies appear to be undead spirits the player can revive.

In the walkthrough, you'll see the game's protagonist, William, summoning mystical creatures to fight alongside him, leveling up his stats at a temple and battling a giant monster. Take note of the various stances and weapons William can use, and the stamina meter that appears to govern his dodging and strikes.

Nioh is bound for PS4 sometime in 2016.
