Valkyria Chronicles Remastered launches this May on PS4 in the West

Head back onto the battlefield

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, Sega's current-generation remake of the beloved PlayStation 3 tactical role-playing game, will be released May 17 on PlayStation 4 in the Americas and Europe, the company announced today.

As previously confirmed, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will cost $29.99 in the U.S. and CA$44.99 in Canada. Pre-orders and first-run copies in the Americas come in a special metal case featuring artwork of Squad 7, the Gallian militia group at the center of the game. Valkyria Chronicles Remastered launched in Japan a month ago.

Sega announced today that it will release a special edition of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered exclusively in Europe, the Europa Edition. That package includes a 32-page art book, The Art of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, and a double-sided poster with Squad 7 on one side and Selvaria Bles on the other. Players who aren't interested in physical items will be able to buy a digital copy of the game from the PlayStation Store in both the Americas and Europe.

A Sega representative told Polygon that the Europa Edition isn't a separate package from the game itself; as with the metal case in the Americas, European pre-order and first-run copies of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will be the Europa Edition. Sega has yet to confirm a price for the game in Europe; a spokesperson said the company should have details "in the coming weeks."

Valkyria Chronicles debuted on the PS3 in 2008. The remastered version brings the game to PS4 in 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second with all of its original downloadable content. Valkyria Chronicles Remastered also includes both Japanese and English audio, and — unlike the original game — a full set of PlayStation Network trophies. Sega later ported Valkyria Chronicles to Windows PC; that version was released in November 2014. For a reminder of how the game's battle system works, check out the trailer below.

A new Valkyria Chronicles title, Valkyria: Azure Revolution, is coming to PS4 in Japan later this year. Sega has not confirmed whether it will localize the game into English and bring it to the West.
