New Valkyrie Profile game launching this spring (update)

Square Enix revealed a new entry in the Valkyrie Profile series today, announcing Valkyrie Anatomia -The Origin- with a teaser site. The role-playing game is currently in production for a spring 2016 release in Japan, although platforms are unconfirmed.

Various high-profile staff members are involved with the project, including Yoshinori Yamagishi, who produced all three previous entries in the Valkyrie Profile series. Japanese playwright Bun-Oh Fujisawa is attached to write the script for the new game.

Further details about Valkyrie Anatomia are scarce, including whether the game will come stateside. Although its connection to prior Valkyrie Profile games remains unknown, it represents the first release in developer tri-Ace's series since Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume on Nintendo DS. The tactical role-playing gameplay of the DS title deviated from the norse mythology series' standard dungeon crawling.

Update: Square-Enix confirmed that the game will launch on iOS and Android. Pre-registration is now open to players in Japan until April 26.
