During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Benedict Cumberbatch premiered the first trailer for his upcoming Marvel debut, Doctor Strange.
Doctor Strange entered the Marvel comics universe in Strange Tales back in July 1963. Created by Marvel icon Steve Ditko, Strange was a former doctor who eventually became Sorcerer Supreme and acted as the protector of Earth against cosmic and supernatural threats. Through a combination of mystical and martial arts abilities, Strange became an important figure in the fight to defend Earth over the years.
The film, which also stars Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor, marks Cumberbatch's entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange is another example of the studio opening the Cinematic Universe to be something much larger, exploring other worlds and universes that they previously only did with the Thor films.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson, will be released Nov. 4.
