Final Fantasy 9 now available for PC on Steam

The PlayStation JRPG finally comes to Windows

It's a little later than expected, but Final Fantasy 9, which first hit PlayStation in 2000, is now available for Windows PC via Steam. Square Enix is currently selling the classic role-playing game for $16.79, a 20 percent discount from its $20.99 asking price.

Final Fantasy 9's Windows PC port boasts Steam achievements, trading cards, auto saves and cloud saves that are designed to work with other devices. Final Fantasy 9 was ported to Android and iOS earlier this year.

The Windows PC release also includes optional booster features, "including high speed mode and no encounter mode, which will allow players to automatically master equipped weapons and gear, as well as maximize character levels, magic stone counts and gil," Square Enix says.

Final Fantasy 9 for Windows PC features higher resolution character models, but expect the game's pre-rendered backgrounds to elicit fond reminders of PlayStation era resolutions. You can reminisce with the game's announcement trailer below.
