First trailer for The Magnificent Seven puts Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington in the Old West

The boys are back

The first trailer for the new adaptation of John Sturges' 1960 classic The Magnificent Seven is finally here and the focus is clearly on Denzel Washington.

The film, which is based on Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, follows seven gunslingers in the old west who join forces to protect a small village that has come under attack by a group of vicious thieves. Washington, who plays Sam Chisholm, leads the group of outsiders, which include Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier.

The remake has a lot to live up to, with both the Seven Samurai and Sturges' Magnificent Seven being considered iconic films of Hollywood past. The trailer, chock-full of blazing guns and snappy one-liners, definitely makes it seem like there'll be a different approach to this film than there was with the first two, but that may just work in its favor.

The Magnificent Seven, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), will be released on Sept. 23.
