Destiny's Iron Banner brings back Clash and exclusive gear

Gather your party, high-stakes team deathmatch is back

Destiny's player-versus-player Crucible mode is hosting a special, high-level Iron Banner event at the end of this month. Posted just yesterday on the Bungie blog, designer Jeremiah Pieschl says many of the changes this time around are based directly on player feedback.

The event, which begins April 26 and runs until May 3, will feature the Clash game type and pit teams of level 40-plus players against one another. Guardians will carry over their Light-enabled advantages, which affect how much damage players deal out and receive. This time around, however, the payouts for victory will be different.

"In the first Iron Banner after the April Update," Pieschl wrote, "you’ll experience some changes we’ve made to improve the reward experience. Legendary Engrams are great and all, but if you’re playing Iron Banner, it’s more likely that you want some of that sweet Iron Banner gear. So you should expect to see more Iron Banner gear next week instead of Legendary Engrams. Iron Banner gear will now have a chance to drop after every match you play - no more waiting until Rank 2. Given that many players spend more time playing at lower ranks due to the tempered mechanic, it was important to make sure those earlier games were rewarding as well."

He also said there was a reward logic issue that was fixed by the Destiny team, which will now allow more consistent access to rewards below Banner Rank 5.

There's also a majestic-looking new rifle and rocket launcher as well as some gorgeous armor, done up in a wintry green and brown with white accents.
