All Fallout 4 players on Windows PC can now try a beta version of the game's mod tools, developer Bethesda Game Studios announced today.
Bethesda had been running a closed beta for much of April, and has now opened up the Creation Kit, the suite of tools that allow players to create mods for Fallout 4, to everyone on PC. The main menu now has a "mods" option through which players can search for mods, mark them as favorites, give feedback on them and install them, right from within the game.
Mods in Fallout 4 are powered by Bethesda.net, which offers the Creation Kit as a free download. You can also browse the mods on the web; more than 100 are on the site right now, and you can see some of them in the video above. PC players must update to the Fallout 4 version 1.5 beta in order to access mods. Here's how that works in Steam:
- Log into Steam
- Right Click on Fallout 4 in your Library
- Select Settings
- Select Betas
- A drop down menu will appear. Select beta
- Select OK
- Wait a few minutes and Fallout 4 should update
- When done, Fallout 4 should appear as Fallout 4 [Beta] in your Library
Mods are available only on PC for now; they will be available on Xbox One in May (thanks to Bethesda's exclusivity contract with Microsoft), and on PlayStation 4 in June.
