Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) will star in the upcoming Tomb Raider feature film reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Oscar winner will play Lara Croft in her return to the big screen.
Angelina Jolie originally played the title character in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, the 2001 action film based on the game franchise. She later starred in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life in 2003. In March, Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame was reportedly in negotiations to star in the new Tomb Raider.
A new Tomb Raider film has been in the works since 2013. It will draw from the recent Tomb Raider games, which feature a new take on the classic character. Last year, director Roar Uthaug signed onto the Warner Bros., MGM and GK Films co-production.
