The Ghostbusters franchise has a big summer planned already, but Fathom Films just added another event for fans to mark in their calendars. Ghostbusters, the original 1984 comedy, will screen in theaters nationwide this June, in honor of its 32nd anniversary.
That's the reason that Fathom Films claims is behind the theatrical re-release, anyway. Tickets are available starting May 6 for both dates: June 8, with an encore on June 12. But it's just as likely that Ghostbusters 1.0 is screening in anticipation of the franchise's new movie, in theaters just a month later.
The female-fronted Ghostbusters reboot, also called Ghostbusters, opens July 15. The gender-swapped ghost hunting crew is led by Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon. They're joined by Chris Hemsworth as their secretary. All five actors have already proven themselves to make for fine Lego figures.
More revivals on the way include the return of Hi-C Ecto Cooler, a Ghostbusters-themed drink that some will remember bingeing on in their youths. There's also a new Ghostbusters game on the way, but it won't feature the new or old casts.
Correction: This year marks Ghostbusters' 32nd anniversary. Aside from the original film's re-release, a new movie in the franchise will hit theaters July 15, not 16. The post has been corrected.
