Watch the first trailer for Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender

Ah, the sweet smell of nostalgia in the morning

The first trailer for DreamWorks Animation and Netflix's new Voltron series, Voltron: Legendary Defender, has arrived.

The 10-episode series, which debuts with an hour-long premiere on the streaming service June 10, is based on the popular cartoon from 1984. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery said their goal was always to make a version of the show that would appeal to the original fans of the series, while also correcting some of the major problems it suffered from.

"The nostalgia for the original show is what has carried it through to this point," Dos Santos told Entertainment Weekly. That's a sentiment that Montgomery echoed. She added that they wanted to make the fun show people remember from being kids rather than "the mess" it turned out to actually be in hindsight.

The original series focused on five space explorers who used robotic lions to carry out their missions, all under the umbrella of the Voltron team. The new series stays loyal to that storyline, but Dos Santos said they've added more details and information about the characters, the missions and their overall goal.

Voltron: Legendary Defender, which includes a breadth of talent, from The Walking Dead's Steve Yuen to Arrow's Bex Taylor-Klaus, will be available to stream June 10.
