Jimmy Kimmel premiered the first trailer for the upcoming Assassin's Creed film tonight on his talk show. You can check that out above to see Michael Fassbender get into character as lead assassin Callum Lynch.
A poster for the film, below, also dropped following the release of the trailer.
The film, an adaptation of Ubisoft's action franchise, is due in theaters Dec. 21. 20th Century Fox is distributing the feature, which isn't based on any specific Assassin's Creed title. Instead, it tells a story set in the games' universe. Fans will recognize elements like Abstergo Industries, the villainous Templar organization that will factor into the movie's storyline.
A viral marketing campaign featuring Callum Lynch's foes at Abstergo Industries seemed to tease the trailer premiere earlier this year. Instead, it led those who followed along to the first audio clip of Michael Fassbender as Lynch.
Joining Fassbender in the cast are Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams and others. Whether the actors will feature in the upcoming VR experience based on the film — or its reported sequel — has not been confirmed.
