The Banner Saga 2 hits consoles in July

Much faster turnaround than the console port of The Banner Saga

Barely a month after launching on Mac and Windows PC, The Banner Saga 2 has a launch date for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: July 26, developer Stoic Studios said.

It's a very fast turnaround for the game, considering those console's versions of the first Banner Saga game only arrived in January, two years after the original PC launch.

"Although our team size dictated what we could do with the first release, we knew that a two-year wait for the sequel was just not acceptable," John Watson, Stoic's technical director, said in a statement. "So we worked extremely hard to ensure that console gamers could continue their journey in a timely fashion.

"Our goal for Banner Saga 3 is to simultaneously ship on all platforms," he said.

The Banner Saga 2 is the latest installment in what has been planned as a trilogy all along. The series began with a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $750,000 in 2012.

Both games have been well received critically; Polygon scored The Banner Saga 2 an 8, calling it "a well crafted, gut-wrenching tale." For more, see our review.
