Warner Bros. is working on a film starring a variety of women from the DC Universe, featuring Suicide Squad star Harley Quinn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Margot Robbie will reportedly reprise her role as Quinn, and is also set to serve as a producer for the untitled spinoff. The Hollywood Reporter says that the film could feature heroines such as Batgirl and the group Birds of Prey, and that the unspecified writer of the movie is a woman.
Although DC or Warner Bros. hasn't commented on which characters would make it into the movie, there seems to be an interest in bringing in Batman-related figures, including villains like Poison Ivy. DC has been working to produce more content geared toward female audiences, including creating an entirely new comic book line called DC SuperHero Girls.
There's no word on whether the Harley Quinn movie will be an official arm of DC's extended universe, like the stand-alone Batman and Superman movies. Suicide Squad will feature Affleck's Batman, so there's no reason why this movie couldn't be included in the universe. If that's the case, this opens the door for multiple female superheroes and villains to join future Justice League movies, too.
Robbie will make her debut as the character in Suicide Squad. She'll star alongside Jared Leto, Will Smith, Cara Delevigne, Joel Kinnamen and, of course, Affleck. The film is being directed by David Ayer.
Suicide Squad hits theaters Aug. 5.
