Hideo Kojima reveals the character behind the new Kojima Productions logo

Metal Gear creator shows the full body of his new studio's icon

Michael McWhertor is a journalist with more than 17 years of experience covering video games, technology, movies, TV, and entertainment.

When Hideo Kojima revealed his next venture, the new Kojima Productions, last year, he announced the reformed studio with a black and white logo that featured an armored, skull-faced being. Today, Kojima reveals the full mascot behind that logo. He's called Ludens, and he appears to be a futuristic explorer of new worlds.

Kojima offered the first full-body look at Ludens on Twitter today, describing him as "the icon of Kojima Productions." Ludens, Kojima said, wears an "extra-vehicular activity (EVA) creative suit" — though the official artwork actually reads "extra-vehicular creative activity suit" — and is seen holding a Kojima Productions flag.

"We'll deliver THE NEW PLAY in THE NEW FUTURE with the cutting-edge equipment, technology, & the frontier spirit," Kojima said of his new studio's ambitions on Twitter.

Here's a larger look at Ludens:

The reborn Kojima Productions' first title will be a new franchise and a PlayStation 4 console exclusive, Kojima and Sony announced last year. Kojima has said that his ambitions for Kojima Productions go beyond just making games.
