Tyrell Wellick is back, Elliot's issues are getting worse and the world is in a state of total anarchy in the latest featurette for Mr. Robot's second season.
Warning: This post will contain spoilers for the first season.
In the video, which was given to The Hollywood Reporter, New York City has turned into a battleground following the massive hack on the conglomerate, Evil Corp. The attack, now being referred to as "Five/Nine," has left everyone angry with the deception and lies Wall Street has fed them. The show picks up 30 days after the hack takes place and creator Sam Esmail says they pressed "the gas pedal down really hard" to make it even more twisty and dangerous than last season.
One of the ways they did that, Esmail added, was by delving into the psyche of the show's main character, Elliot, played by Rami Malek. After Elliot learned that Mr. Robot, played by Christian Slater, was actually just a figment of his imagination brought on by a severe case of psychosis, he's been doing everything in his power to get rid of the manifestation.
Malek said that it's almost the polar opposite of what happened last season, which found Elliot trying to find out as much as he could about the illusive Mr. Robot. Slater echoes his co-star's thoughts and added that it was only going to get darker as the show progressed.
"Season two will go to some pretty dark places," Slater said. "We delve into several of the nooks and crannies of Elliot's psyche."
The second season of Mr. Robot will premiere on July 13 at 9 p.m. ET on USA. Watch the featurette below.
