A new game set in the Fable universe is now in development at Flaming Fowl Studios, an indie team composed of former Lionhead Studios developers. In an interview with IGN, Flaming Fowl announced that the project, Fable Fortune, will open for crowdfunding tomorrow before launching at the end of 2017.
Fable Fortune is a collectible card game (think Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft), but will feature role-playing game-style quests. Much like in the older Fable games, from which Fortune's characters and settings are drawn, players will have to make decisions that could turn their hero to the good or evil side. Along the way, the team will offer online co-op and the ability to level up cards; Flaming Fowl is considering adding campaign and further PvP modes as well.
The studio licensed the Fable intellectual property from Microsoft, which still owns the series after closing down Lionhead in April. The game has been in the works since 2014, however, according to IGN. Fable Fortune was originally meant to be included in Fable 2 before becoming its own project.
A Kickstarter campaign will launch tomorrow, May 31, at 10 a.m. ET. Flaming Fowl Studios' goal is set at 250,000 British pounds (about $365,900) to fund the planned Windows PC and Xbox One release. A closed beta will begin after the crowdfunding period closes, and an open beta is scheduled for later this year.
Update: The Kickstarter is now live. Check out the campaign page for another look at Fable Fortune.
