Seth MacFarlane, the man behind Family Guy and Ted, is creating and starring in an entirely new series set in space, 300 years in the future.
The show, which doesn't have a title yet, has been a dream project of MacFarlane's since he was a kid. In a press release, MacFarlane said that after working with Fox for over 20 years on shows like Family Guy, he was excited to shift his focus onto an entirely new project.
"I think this is going to be something special," he said.
Being toted as a comedic drama, the hourlong show will follow a group of people aboard a dinky spaceship called the Orville, which belongs to Earth's interstellar fleet. Think Firefly meets Futurama.
Although this is the first live-action series that MacFarlane will star in, it's not the first live-action project he's worked on. He directed both Ted and Ted 2, and even co-produced Fox's documentary series starring Neil deGrasse Tyson, Cosmos: A Space Odyssey.
The 13-episode series will begin production soon and is expected to air sometime during the 2017-2018 period.
