New DLC for XCOM 2 features boss aliens that hunt your troops

Promises unique armor, weapons and a set of narrative missions

2K Games announced a second DLC pack for XCOM 2, which received high marks our original review. The upcoming Alien Hunters add-on will add more than just wacky new outfits this time around, according to the publisher.

The Alien Hunters DLC adds narrative-driven missions to the game, as well as new weapons, armor and a unique class of aliens called Rulers.

A press release states that Rulers will begin to show up randomly in player's campaign missions. Each one will have "their own unique behaviour and tactics" and are promised to be "incredibly intelligent." If you can't manage to eliminate them the first time they show up, they'll begin to pop up again and again to harass your soldiers during the course of regular missions.

Rulers will only begin to appear after players manage to beat a new narrative mission set. Not much is known about that mission set, but it can be assumed to operate similarly to XCOM: Enemy Unknown's Slingshot DLC.

When Rulers are eventually brought down, their bodies can be turned into powerful new sets of armor like the Icarus Suit, which is "outfitted with powerful boosters that allow its wearer to fly around the map."

Finally, Alien Hunters will also include four new weapons. These include "the Bolt Caster, a high damage single-shot weapon; the Hunter’s Axe, a powerful new blade weapon that can be thrown at enemies or used to dispatch foes at close range; the ShadowKeeper pistol, which has the Shadowfall ability that is guaranteed to hit and will place its user in concealment if the enemy is killed; and the Frost Bomb grenade, which is able to temporarily freeze targets." These will not be upgrades to existing weapons, but one-of-a-kind artifacts that will need to be retrieved after each mission to remain in the Avenger armory.

Alien Hunters will be available for download on May 12 for $9.99, or as part of a larger Reinforcement Pack collection for $19.99.
