A film based on Tom Clancy's The Division is reportedly in development, according to Variety. Working with publisher Ubisoft on the adaptation is Jake Gyllenhaal, who's set to both star and produce.
Gyllenhaal's The Division remains without a director or a script, Variety said; the production is still in the early stages. Ubisoft has yet to confirm that the movie is in the works.
The Division would be the latest Ubisoft game to head to the big screen, following this December's Assassin's Creed and the upcoming Splinter Cell movie, which Tom Hardy has been attached to since 2012. Gyllenhaal is also no stranger to bringing games to theaters: He starred in a movie based on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2010.
As Ubisoft's biggest recent success — the publisher cited The Division as the biggest new franchise launch ever back in March — the New York City-set shooter makes sense for the Hollywood treatment.
