Watch the first trailer for Disney's Moana

It's adorably awkward

Disney has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated movie, which focuses on the first Polynesian princess, Moana.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson as the demi-god Maui and newcomer Auli'i Cravahlo as the titular character, Moana. Set in the South Pacific world of Oceana, the movie follows the young Moana as she sets out on a voyage to try and find a mysterious, fabled land. While on her mission with Maui to find the island, the two come across a series of obstacles and realizations, including sea creatures, underworlds and ancient lore that may not be as mythological as she once thought.

When the film was announced last year, fans of the animation house were pleased to see Disney reaching out and trying to incorporate a wider array of cultures. Before Moana and The Princess and the Frog, which starred the studio's first black princess, Tiana, Disney had been criticized for its lack of diversity.

Moana is slated to be released Nov. 23, 2016.
