Infinite Warfare is one of the most anticipated games of E3 and here's everything we know about the game.

Here's everything we know about Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Just the Facts

Developer: Infinity Ward

Publisher: Activision

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One

Release Date: Nov. 4, 2016

The story

Infinite Warfare follows Captain Nick Reyes, a Tier 1 Special Operations pilot stationed aboard one of Earth's last remaining vessels, the Retribution. While Infinity Ward wouldn't specify just how far in the future Infinite Warfare is set, the developer did confirm some additional details about the politics surrounding the upcoming war players will find themselves in. The Settlement Defense Front, an insurgent group that split off from the United Nations Space Alliance during a succession war, is trying to take over a vast amount of space colonies that bring the remaining people on Earth supplies to survive.

Despite the space setting, narrative director Taylor Kurosaki said the game will still feel grounded in a way that Call of Duty fans will appreciate. The game will still focus on human versus human combat, for example, and will still give players a plausible, military-driven experience. Just, y'know, in space. Kurosaki added that this game will focus on the heavy burden of being in a commanding role, and provide a linear experience for players. Although, Kurosaki also said that there will be side missions available to players if they want to go off and do their own thing in space.

Asked and Answered

What is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?

Infinite Warfare is the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, and the followup to 2014's Advanced Warfare. The game takes place in a futuristic space setting and follows an insurgent group trying to take on the United Nations Space Alliance, hellbent on stealing goods that are en route to colonies on Earth.

What will you be doing in the game?

Players will take control of Captain Nick Reyes and with it, the burdens he has as a commanding officer in this ongoing war. Like other Call of Duty games, players will try to take down the insurgent group and save the smaller colony still living on Earth. There will be a strong, linear single-player campaign mode that players can throw themselves into on top of the multiplayer mode the franchise is known for. New maps based in space and side missions will be available for players, too.

What inspired the game?

According to Kurosaki and design director Jacob Minkoff, war movies like Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan were what inspired the newest addition in the Call of Duty franchise. The story of Infinite Warfare will deal with similar themes that these movies did.

Who will be providing the voices for the characters?

The biggest addition to the Call of Duty franchise is Game of Thrones' Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington.

What will the new weapons look like?

We know there are new guns in the game, as seen in the gameplay video above, but Activision did not specify what those guns will look like. We do, however, know that there will be combat scenarios in space, meaning that the new weaponry will have to be able to perform in zero gravity situations.

What new maps will be included?

Infinity Ward did not show off any of the new maps, outside of what appears to be one of the main space levels. The level can be seen in the video above and, of course, is much different than anything Call of Duty has presented with fans before. Gravity, or lack thereof, will play a major facet in the development of maps and players will have to navigate using different weapons, like grenades, in the new settings.

How will aspects of space be incorporated in the game?

There are quite a few new developments for fans of the franchise in terms of gameplay and aesthetic. Players will be able to pilot spaceships and engage in aerial combat. For those that aren't interested in piloting ships and taking a joyride through space, the game will also have plenty of on the ground shooting. Included in Infinite Warfare's new combat system is the ability to use a grappling hook to launch onto an enemy, or close enough to an enemy to make for a more dramatic kill.

What about Modern Warfare Remastered? Is that tied into Infinite Warfare?

Those looking to get their hands on Modern Warfare Remastered can only do so if they pre-purchase Infinite Warfare. Those who order the game on PS4 will be able to get their hands on Modern Warfare Remastered a month earlier, too. The offer, which is a pre-purchase and not a pre-order, only applies to the single-player campaign.

When is the game being released?

The game will be released Nov. 4, 2016.
