Watch the creepy first teaser trailer for HBO's Westworld

Show will premiere this fall on HBO

Before airing its most anticipated episode of Game of Thrones this season, HBO debuted the first teaser trailer for its tense and creepy new series, Westworld.

Based on a sci-fi movie from 1973 by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), Westworld follows a group of people in a futuristic theme park called Westworld. The show has also been described as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artifical consciousness and the future of sin."

In the first teaser trailer, we get a better glimpse at some of the characters we'll meet, including Sir Anthony Hopkins as the creator of Westworld, James Marsden as the new, gunslinging cowboy type that's learning the ropes and Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, a resident of Westworld who learns that her entire life is nothing more than a well constructed lie.

There isn't a lot of action in the first teaser trailer, but it is incredibly tense and shows off just how dystopian the theme park can feel. Not to mention, of course, just how untrusting and skeptical the citizens of Westworld feel about their home, too.

The show's production has had quite a few snags over the last year, leading to HBO delaying the debut just a little bit while it got sorted out, but it appears the series is back on track. Westworld will premiere on the network this fall.
