Darth Vader will be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Considering Rogue One: A Star Wars Story focuses on a group of rebels trying to steal the plans to the Death Star, the question over whether Darth Vader would appear in the new stand-alone movie has been thrown around multiple times. Today, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Darth Vader would in fact be in Rogue One and would have a bigger role than just appearing on screen for a split second or a simple cameo.

There isn't much information about his role in the film — including who will play the revered, masked villain — but it is the first confirmation fans have that Vader's role in the Star Wars universe isn't done quite yet.

Despite Vader still being a mystery, there's plenty of information about Rogue One available right now. We know the movie will focus on Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), it'll feature the first Rebel base on the tiny moon Yavin 4 and Mon Mothma, who was supposed to be in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith but was eventually cut out, will also be in the movie.

The first full-length trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released a couple of months ago, and provided us with quite a few details about new characters, planets and vehicles that will be used in the film. A full breakdown of the trailer can be found here.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Storydirected by Gareth Edwards, will be released Dec. 18.
