Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have confirmed Injustice 2 and debuted the first trailer for the game. It can be seen above.
A sequel to NetherRealm Studios' Injustice: Gods Among Us, which was released three years ago, Injustice 2 will continue the storyline that was started in the first game and expand the roster of DC characters players can use to fight. In the sequel, Batman and his team are working to restore society to what it once was against a group of people who want to reinstate Superman's regime. The studio also teased a bigger threat to Batman and the world at large that will be introduced in the new game.
Ed Boon, creative director at NetherRealm, said that the team is introducing new features and mechanics in Injustice 2 that will change the way fighting games are played, but did not expand on what those features may be. Players will also be given the chance to customize every aspect of their character, from appearance to fighting styles, in a variety of different modes being introduced.
Right now, players who have downloaded the Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game can unlock the Injustice 2 versions of Superman and Aquaman by completing in-game challenge modes. The game is available for free on both the iOS App store and Google Play.
NetherRealm Studios did not specify when Injustice 2 would be released, but did say it would be sometime in 2017. More information should become available following the studio's session at E3.
