New Batman: Arkham game lets you play as the bad guys of Gotham City

Play as Harley, Mr. Freeze, The Riddler and more in DC's new mobile game

Batman: Arkham Underworld, a free-to-play mobile game set in the Arkham video game franchise, is now available worldwide for iPhone and iPad, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC Entertainment and developer Turbine announced today. Instead of giving players control of Batman, however, this time players will assume the role of his archenemies.

Mobile gamers can command the likes of The Riddler, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc and Scarecrow in Batman: Arkham Underworld. Players are tasked with "building their ultimate hideout" by recruiting and training henchmen who will help them take over Gotham City. There's one major obstacle, however: The Batman. Gotham's protector will prove a nuisance for players whose empire grows too powerful.

Warner Bros. says that Batman: Arkham Underworld is set narratively before the events of 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game features the vocal talents of Wally Wingert as The Riddler and Kevin Conroy as Batman.

Underworld is WBIE's second mobile game to bear the Batman: Arkham name. Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, developed by Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm, was released in 2011.
