This month, the Donkey Kong series celebrates its 35th anniversary.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we went back to the very beginning of the series, when the titular gorilla was a pixelated villain and the heroic Mario didn't even have a name yet.
From those humble beginnings, to Rare's classic take on Donkey Kong on the Super Nintendo, to the lovable gorilla showing up in everything from kart racers to fighting games, it'd been a wild ride.
