During the interactive panel at Star Wars Celebration on Saturday, Lucasfilm announced that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice writer David Goyer was partnering with ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm's immersive entertainment division, to helm an original narrative VR experience focused on Darth Vader.
Goyer, who took the stage to make the announcement, said that when they were looking into which Star Wars character to focus on for the story-based project, Darth Vader was the only one that made sense. Goyer said he's the perfect character to have for introducing fans to the Star Wars VR universe, according to an official announcement from Lucasfilm.
The story will be 100 percent original, but remain canonical to the main universe, creative executive Pablo Hidalgo said during the panel. Described as "experimental storytelling" the experience will merge linear storytelling elements with non-linear, interactive elements to create an entirely new immersive world for fans.
Neither Hidalgo or Goyer said whether the experience would be available on all current VR headsets or if would be tied specifically to higher end models like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. More information is expected to become available soon.
